What’s Love Got to Do With It?

When Tina Turner left her first husband Ike, who was her boss, captor, and brutal tormentor, she snuck out of their Dallas hotel room with a single thought: "The way out is through the door." As soon as she decided to walk out that door, she left everything behind.  In the following decade Tina became the biggest global rock star of the 80’s, using her platform to speak publicly about her abusive marriage, giving hope and courage to countless people struggling with domestic violence.

Through Tina’s passing we are reminded that domestic violence can affect anyone in a close relationship with a current or former spouse or dating partner.  It can be seen in a range of behaviors that include physical, sexual, verbal, emotional, psychological and economic abuse.  These behaviors can result in a destructive, harmful effect on individuals, their families, and the community.

HomeAid Northern California builds and renovates multi-shelter units for families and individuals so they can rebuild their lives. As the charity arm of the building industry, HomeAid’s work is made possible through the generosity of homebuilders, their trade partners, financial institutions, and you!  We are currently working on new construction projects with several local non-profits that specialize in stopping the cycle of domestic violence. In addition to providing a complete spectrum of prevention, intervention, and treatment programs, these non-profits also enlist the efforts of local residents, partners, and institutions, to stop domestic violence and child abuse.  To get involved in a HomeAid Project please contact Crisand Giles.  If you or someone you know needs supportive services to end the cycle of violence, we urge you to contact:
